Dr. Hayden is the James Lowenstine Professor of Internal Medicine and Professor of Pathology at Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL. She is the Division Chief of Infectious Diseases and Director of the Division of Clinical Microbiology at Rush University Medical Center. Dr. Hayden’s clinical and research interests include the diagnosis, epidemiology and prevention of healthcare-associated infections, especially those caused by antimicrobial-resistant organisms. She has served on national diagnostic guidelines development committees and on committees that establish standards in infection prevention, including the CDC’s Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC). She is currently president of the Board of Directors of the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) and Chair of the Diagnostics Committee of the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA).
