I am a Professor of Pharmaceutical Microbiology at the Cardiff School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences (Cardiff University, Wales). My field of expertise concerns antimicrobials and particularly biocides; their activity, mechanisms of action, and the emergence of microbial resistance and cross-resistance to antimicrobials. I am particularly interested in sporicides, antimicrobial wipes and the design of efficacy test protocols that mimic real life applications. I have published over 150 peer-reviewed articles, 19 book chapters and 3 books and over 140 refereed conference communications. I am the Chief Editor of Letters in Applied Microbiology and a member of the editorial board for the Journal of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy. I contributed to several working groups for the development of novel protocols, including Clostridium difficile efficacy standard test, pre-wetted wipe standard test and antimicrobial surface test. I am the Director of the Cardiff Institute for Tissue Engineering and Repair, and Chair of the British Standard Institute CH/216/0-/01 group on antimicrobial hard surface.
